Preschool Home Learning Plans

So you’re home with your preschooler and are wishing someone would just hand you some preschool home learning plans?  You may find your regular preschool closed and now you are staring down empty hours every day and wondering how to both entertain and educate your preschool child!  The good news is most moms of preschoolers are in the same boat right now.  There is no one perfect way to educate your child at home, but I wanted to share with you how we have been learning at home, and of course share some free activities with you!

Step One:

My first suggestion is to set up a loose schedule for the day.  I say loose because I am sure you already know, life with little kids rarely fits into a rigid schedule perfectly!  I personally like to focus the most on literacy skills because I know this subject will move quickly once they get into Kindergarten.

In the past we have done an alphabet activity in the morning and did some independent handwriting and math work in the afternoon.  BUT, with my older daughters now home and doing e-learning we have changed the schedule.  (Changing with new seasons of life is a must with kids!)  I have my little guy doing all his learning activities in the morning at the same time his sister’s are doing their work because that is what is working for us.  This may not work for you, but experiment and figure out what skills and subjects you want to focus on and what schedule works for you!!

Our Sample Schedule:

I have our activities set up in different stations for my little guy right now.  I try to correspond work it so that he is doing independent activities when I need to be helping one of my girls with their e-learning.  So here is what a typical morning could look like.

Station 1- Read books with Mom for 20 minutes- I pick a book and he picks a book.

Up next, Station 2- Alphabet Activity- (See below for a week’s worth of freebies!)

Station 3- Independent Worksheets- We use one worksheet from my Handwriting Bundle and one of my Alphabet Match Worksheets.

And finally, Station 4- Technology Time- For 20 minutes he gets to use an educational app or website.  His current favorite is Starfall!  He love this the best, so I purposely leave it to the end because completing the rest is his ticket to technology time!

Real Talk:

This is what is working for us.  The technology time is a recent addition because I needed something else he could do independently while I worked with the big girls.

And I know some of you are rolling your eyes at the worksheet time, but hear me out.  Like it or not, he will have to learn how to complete work sitting at a desk independently.  And these worksheets almost always incorporate fine motor skills like cutting and pasting.  I know he can complete these on his own which means he will be used to working independently on academic activities when he gets to kindergarten.

Week of Alphabet Freebies:

To help you out, I thought I would pull together a sample of my alphabet freebies to help you plan your alphabet activities for this week!  All the activities and games below are FREE to my subscribers!!

Monday’s Activity- Alphabet Hero– This is a fun role play game!  Grab your favorite superhero costume and have you child… I mean superhero, race around and save the alphabet letters!

Tuesday’s Activity- Alphabet Flower– Spring is in the air and in your alphabet activity today.  Use those fine motor skills while coloring the matching letter petals.

Wednesday’s Activity- Alphabet Exercises– Feeling cooped up?  Get your little one moving with these fun alphabet exercise cards!!

Thursday’s Activity- Beginning Sounds Wagon Sort– Don’t forget to practice letter sounds too!  This hands on center style activity takes a little bit of planning to prep, but is great for beginning learners!

Friday’s Activity- Delicious Donuts– Friday is game day!  Grab a sensory bin, print out the game boards and cards and see how can fill their alphabet board first!

I hope these ideas help take some of the stress away from the sudden expectation of educating at home!  If you are interested in the worksheets you mentioned you can find them in my TPT store HERE.

I have five handwriting worksheets available.  One for each day of the week!  Buy one or two or save and get the whole bundle HERE!

My Alphabet Math worksheets work perfectly with my handwriting worksheets.  They are set up as a bundle of five worksheet sets.  Each set practices a simple math concept, but uses pictures corresponding to one letter of the alphabet!  So when my little guy is practicing writing the letter H in his handwriting worksheets, I print off the letter H Alphabet Match worksheets too!

Stay strong and stay safe, mamas!  We are all in this together!
