Saint Patrick’s Day Alphabet Freebie

Do you have any fun Saint Patrick’s day traditions?  Along with using this Saint Patrick’s Day alphabet freebie, my daughter in kindergarten gets to make a trap for the leprechaun that keeps visiting her classroom and creating mischief!   I know the days that my kids will believe in leprechauns and fairy tales are numbered so I love seeing her wide eyes as she tells me what the leprechaun did today!!  Our freebie this week is centered around what every leprechaun is looking for…a pot of gold!!

What You Need:

– Saint Patrick’s Day Alphabet Pot of Gold Printable (Free at the end of this post)

-Saint Patrick’s Day Sensory Bin (optional but makes it so much fun!)

– Scissors

– Mini Erasers or other small manipulative

How to Play:

Of course, first you will need to prep the game.  Print and cut apart the pot of gold boards and the alphabet coins you would like to use.  There are uppercase, lowercase, and beginning sounds options so mix and match to use what works best for you!

I would also recommend using a Saint Patrick’s themed sensory bin to amp up the excitement!  You  can use anything green!  I had some Easter grass that I grabbed at the dollar spot so we used that.  You could do dyed rice or pasta or green pom poms.  Throw in some shiny gold play things if you have them too!  Then add your alphabet coin cards.  If you don’t have a sensory bin or you just don’t have time to make one (we have all been there!), just put your cards in a basket or bucket.

Let the first player take an alphabet coin card from the bin and look to see if they have a matching coin on their pot of gold playing card.  If they do they get to cover it.  We used these cute gold shamrocks!

Then player two does the same thing!  Keep going until someone has their entire pot of gold covered!  If you are only playing with one player you could lay out all four cards and have them guess which pot will be filled up first, and play with all four cards at the same time!
