Letter of the Week Series- W is for Wagon

We are getting ready to go on vacation next week!  WooHoo!!!  We are going to visit family in Colorado and it is always one of the highlights of my year!  I have slowly and painfully learned a few things about traveling with kids.  I think we all instictively think about how to entertain the kids during the long drive.  And yes, they definitely need that.  But what I find harder is down time when you are away from home!  They don’t have their normal routine and they can get restless fast.  So I like to throw in some learning activities for us to do while we are actually there!  Usually activities we have done before and are durable, and this week’s activity is a perfect fit!

What You Need:

-FREE Wagon Beginning Sound Printable (Free below for my newsletter subscribers)

-Velcro Dots like THESE

Laminator and Laminating Sheets (Optional, but highly recommended for durability!)

How To Play:

– First you want to print, laminate and cut apart the FREE Wagon Beginning Sounds Printable.  Then you will want to add one half of the velcro dot to the top of the wagon and the other half to the back of the picture card.

– Next, we laid out all the Wagon Cards and put all the picture cards in a bucket.

– Then she drew a card out of the bucket and looked for the wagon with the beginning letter of the word pictured.  When she found it she put it on top of the velcro dot and put it to the side in her “done” pile!

Beginning sounds is definitely still a work in progress for us, but it has been such good practice for her to have a few beginning sound activities sprinkled into our weeks.  She still gets to practice recognizing the letters, which she is getting pretty confident at!  And even though she doesn’t know all the beginning sounds yet, getting to hear me model the beginning sounds and having her begin to practice identifying that sound on her own will definitely pay off later!
