This week’s activity utilizes one of our favorite games! We love playing board games, and there are so many games that not only help kids work on social skills, like taking turns, but also work on simple academic skills! One of our favorites for toddlers in Pop the Pig! My kids think watching the pig’s tummy bust is so funny. Plus, I am pretty sure this game is responsible for my son learning how to recognize numbers one through four! Don’t worry though, if you don’t have the game I will give you an alternate version. But you should seriously think about investing in the game! This is not a sponsered post! We just really like the game! You can see more info about it HERE.
How to Play:
-First, print and cut apart your Alphabet Hamburger Cards. Pick 16 cards and put them in a bucket.
– Next, prepare your Pop the Pig Game. Put a dot sticker on each hamburger and add a matching letter for each of the 16 cards you put in the bucket. I was out of dot stickers, so I just cut up some blank address labels! Also, if you don’t have the game you can print and cut out the circle hamburgers and pick out the letters you want. You will also want to add the pig to some sort of container of bucket. Think something like a dishwasher pod container.
– Now we get to play the game!! Have the first player draw a hamburger card and find the matching hamburger. On the bottom of the hamburger is a number. This is the number of times the player will press down on the pigs head.
– Continue letting players take turns drawing a card, finding the matching hamburger and pressing the pig head the corresponding amount. Eventually, the pig’s stomach and vest will pop open. The person who pressed the head when it pops is the winner!! Then if you want, grab the cards you haven’t used, relabel your hamburgers and play it again!!
– If you are playing without the pop the pig game, you will want to draw an alphabet hamburger card and find the matching circle hamburger. Let the player feed the pig (the container you put the pig on). Then roll a dice. Tally up whatever number is rolled. Before the game you will want to decide what number you are playing until. If you choose 30, then the player who rolls the number that makes your tally go over 30 is the winner!!
