Alphabet Detectives

This Alphabet Detective game highlights one of our favorite elements of play…mystery!  There is something about trying to solve a mystery that kids just eat up!  Add in a trench coat and a magnifying glass and learning has just become more play than work.  As long as you keep the environment free of shame, your child will be having so much fun, they won’t even realize they are working too!

What You Need for Alphabet Detectives:

– Alphabet Paint Cards Printable(Free for newsletter subscribers at the end of this post.)

Scissors

Markers

-Envelopes (Optional)

How To Play:

– First, print off your Alphabet Detective cards and recording sheet.  Cut apart the detective cards.  It is totally optional, but you can also add to the mystery theme by having your child dress up as a detective in a long coat and with a magnifying glass.  Another fun addition is to put the detective cards into envelopes marked Top Secret!!!

Now, before you begin playing pick one detective card and put it aside.  Then you can hide the remaining Top Secret envelopes around your house.  You can tell your child you need their help solving a mystery!  You can make up any mystery you want.  Who ate the last cookie?  Who is the winner of a game?  Or make up a mystery that goes along with something you are doing in real life.

Have your child go around finding the Top Secret envelopes.  Open the envelope up, identify the letter and x it off your suspect list on the recording sheet!

Have your child find all the envelopes until there is only the letter you took out at the beginning left.  This remaining letter is the answer to your mystery!!  Laminate your recording sheet to play again and again!!

    Hi Chrystal,
I can’t figure out how to get access to “free for subscribers” activities you post each week. I have subscribed to your newsletter and get it every week, but then I don’t receive a link for the freebee and can’t find a link anywhere in the post to grab these super fun resources! I’ve tried it on several different weeks and would just love to use these activities with my preschool kiddos! They are so fun! The abc detective game this week is fantastic!
