Underwater Alphabet Activity

This underwater alphabet activity uses one of summer’s most fun commodities…Water!  We love heading to the pool or just splashing in the sprinklers at home.  There is just something so refreshing about water!  And even the days we can’t get out in the water, activities like this are here for us to bring the water fun inside!

What You Need for Underwater Alphabet:

-1 Large Rubbermaid Container- We used something like this.

–Alphabet Magnets (or you could use decorative stones and write the letters on them)

-Water

–Net or Tongs

-Paper Towel

-Free Underwater Alphabet Printable (at end of post)

–Mini Erasers or Dot Markers

How to Play:

This comes with three different recording sheets. One for uppercase, lowercase or beginning sounds.  You will want to decide which one best fits your preschooler and print it out!  Also grab your alphabet magnets and either dot markers or mini erasers.

Now you will want to fill your container with water and dump in your alphabet magnets!  We also used a little net to fish the letters out, but you could also use fine motor tweezers too!  Let your child fish out a letter and identify it!

Once they identify the letter, search for the matching letter or picture on your printable recording sheet.  Cover the match with a mini eraser and continue fishing for letters until all the letters have been found, identified and covered!

You can even modify this set up for you toddler too!  Give him some water and a net and let him practice his fine motor skills by fishing out play boats or really just about anything!
