Preschool Earth Day Rhyming Activity 

This preschool Earth Day rhyming activity will fit right in with all your Earth Day preschool fun!  My latest themes in my Preschool Made Easy program have been practicing rhyming so I thought I would keep the rhyming going with this Earth Day activity!

What You Need:

– Earth Day Rhyming Printable (Free at the end of this post)

– Scissors

– Trash Can

– Spinner

Why practice Rhyming:

Rhyming is a very important skill when it comes to your child’s ability to learn to read!  I know it may seem unrelated, but one key part of reading is being able to hear and identify the distinct sounds that make up a word.  Rhyming is a skill that helps your child begin to hear the different sounds in a word!  And honestly, my kids have always really enjoyed rhyming so it’s a great place to start beginning to practice those skills!

How to Play this Earth Day Rhyming Activity:

First, you want to prep your activity!  Grab a trash can, and print and cut apart your trash cards.  Print your spinner page and use a spinner or create your own by holding the tip of a pencil in the open part of a paper clip!  Now crumble up the trash cards and spread them out all over the ground.

Now it’s time to play!  Have your preschooler spin and identify the picture the spinner lands on.  Now it’s time to find a rhyming card!  Open up the crumpled trash cards one at a time until they find a rhyming word.  When they find a rhyme throw the trash card in the trash can.  They are picking up the litter just like we need to in order to keep our Earth clean!  Keep going until all the trash has been rhymed and thrown away!
