Free Kids Escape Room
Escape rooms are all the rage both for adults and in the classroom, so this week I am sharing with you our own Free Kids Escape Room. This escape room is different than the kind you may have been to as an adult where you physically can’t get out of the room until you solve the clues. You won’t be locking your kids in a room, but rather they have a series of challenges they have to complete in order to ultimately solve a riddle.

How To Play:
One of the best things about this activity is that you can customize it to fit your family and kids! I did include for you, the riddle we used and the prompts we used for each of our activities, but if one isn’t great for your kids, swap it out! If you are using my clues you can print them and cut them apart. I told my kids the riddle first. Then I let them know they would earn two random letters in the answer for each activity they completed.Â
The first challenge was a physical one. I had them do a little math to figure out how many laps they needed to run. Then they simply had to run the correct number of laps around our house. If laps around the house don’t work for you think about other exercises you could substitute. Your child could do jumping jacks or hop across a room.
The next challenge wasn’t hard, but just took some teamwork! I gave them a set of alphabet magnets and they had to put them all in alphabetical order! This wasn’t hard, but I also gave it to them so they had a chance to physically rest after running their laps. If you want more of a challenge you could have them create 10 different words from the letters you give them. Or give them 10 words and have them alphabetize them!Â
Halfway Through!
Challenge number three is in the trick shot category. My kids have been all about the bottle flipping this summer! To gain the next two letters one of them had to flip and land a water bottle three times in a row. If this is not for your kids you could think about making a basket three times in a row or bouncing a ping pong ball into a cup of water!
The last challenge is to complete a puzzle! We worked together on a 100 piece puzzle. I knew between them all it wouldn’t take them too long to complete it. If your kids need something with less pieces that is perfect too! After they finish their final challenge they should have all 8 letters for the answer to the riddle. I gave mine the letters in random order, so now it was their job to unscramble the letters and solve the riddle! If they have trouble then you can reveal two letters at a time in their correct spot!
