Coke Explosion Challenge

This Coke Explosion Challenge really is a challenge!  If you have toddlers and preschoolers, this may not be the activity for you.  But if you have school aged kids, they will eat it up!!  You are going to be using Mentos and Coke to make a giant coke explosion.  It may help hype it up if you find a video online of what will happen when they eventually hit their target!

What You Need for the Coke Explosion Challenge:

Coke 2 Liters

Mentos

Space to do the challenge with a higher level to stand on.

How To Play:

You will want to open your Coke 2 liter and set it on the lower level of your playing area.  We did three different spaces, our back steps, from the window of our clubhouse, and from the ledge of our swing set.  Since we had three people we rotated turns.  Each player got five tries to toss their Mentos into the Coke bottle.  If they didn’t make it in any of their turns, the next person tried.  We continued this until one person finally made it!

This has the potential to take a lot of Mentos, so I had my kids go gather their five Mentos each round so we didn’t end up using so many, but some will get lost or broken so definitely plan on extra.  Each time one of my kids finally got the Mentos in the Coke they all got so excited.  It really does spray up!  The picture above is my son.  As only a 6 year old boy can do, when the last Mentos made contact with the Coke, he jumped down and put his face right on the bottle to drink as much as he could.  Needless to say he was a sticky but smiley mess!
