Beginning Sounds Egg Hunt

I know what you are thinking when you first saw this Beginning Sounds Egg Hunt.  Aren’t you a little late for this?  Easter is over!  It’s true, but honestly I think this week is your prime time to use all those little plastic Easter eggs.  I have always held off on an actual egg hunt until after Easter.  It seems like you steal some of the excitement of Easter if the whole week before is filled with egg hunts!  But now that Easter is done and you keep stepping on plastic eggs, this is your moment!!  So gather up those eggs and let’s have an egg hunt!

Teaching Beginning Sounds:

Being able to recognize beginning sounds is a foundational building block for your child on their way to reading.  Don’t be alarmed if your child still needs help with this skill.  Remember that exposure usually leads to mastering!  As you do this activity feel free to help your child identify the picture they find and if they are having trouble isolating that first sound, jump in and help!  They are still making great connections in letter sound recognition and their ability to isolate sounds will grow as you continue to work with letters and words!

How To Play this Beginning Sounds Egg Hunt:

First print off the Beginning Sounds Egg Hunt printable.  Cut out each card and put each card inside a plastic Easter egg.  Now hide your eggs!!  We love getting outside any chance we can, but you could definitely do this inside if the weather doesn’t work for outdoor run!

After all the eggs are hidden, let your child find one!  Open up the egg and identify the picture and what letter that word starts with.  Then color in that letter on the recording sheet!  You could easily do this with one child or have children take turns finding eggs in a larger group.

Keep finding and recording eggs until all 26 eggs have been found!  And then you can let your kids loose with the plastic eggs and your morning is full of plastic egg hunting fun!
