What You Need for Watermelon Counting Cards:
-Watermelon Counting Cards Printable (free at the end of this post)
–Black beans or black pom pomsÂ
How to Play:
Print off and cut apart the counting cards. I recommend laminating them so you can use them multiple times, but this is totally optional! Grab some dry black beans or small black pom poms to use as your seeds. We love these trays from the Target Dollar Spot because they have the perfect spot for our manipulatives!
Once you have all your supplies gathered let your child begin by putting their own “seeds” (black beans or pom poms) onto each seed on the card. They can count as they add the seeds. Once they have covered all the seeds you can identify the number at the top and the word at the bottom and let them trace each of these. I definitely don’t expect my preschooler to know his number words yet, but in the land of preschool exposure is always a good thing!
Some of you with more active children may be thinking, my kid will never sit still for this! If that is you, try to spice it up with musical watermelon chairs! Put each card around the table and play some music. When the music stops your child can sit down and complete the card closest to them. This added movement wakes their brains up and helps to keep them engaged! Happy learning!
