Water Relay for Kids

Water Relay for Kids

Since I just read an article this week saying we are currently in the middle of the 5th hottest summer on record here where we live, we are bringing back the water with this water relay for kids.  Definitely expect to get wet and maybe even follow this up with a sprinkler or water fight!

What You Need:

 Sponges

Two Buckets

Space to run outside

How To Play:

First, set your two buckets on opposite ends in your running space so you can run back and forth between them.  Then fill one bucket up with water.  We actually used a larger bucket filled with water.  Then grab your sponges and put them in your bucket.  We used two sponges so one was always ready for the next person.

The goal of the relay is to get water from one buck to the other using just the sponge.  So the first person will grab the sponge, run the the empty bucket and squeeze the water from the sponge in.  Then they run back and the next person repeats the process.  The relay continues until the bucket is overflowing.

We chose to do this activity as one team because honestly, I was tired of the arguments between my kids and I knew a competition would create another argument.  But if you think your own crew can handle it, you could make this a race.  Just make sure you have two buckets and sponges for every team!
