Shaving Cream Paint Thank You Cards

This week’s shaving cream paint thank you cards are a fun way to turn a fun art process into a useful thank you card.  We used these to reflect on some of the things we were most thankful for about our teachers this last year.  And I am sure gratitude is a characteristic we all want to encourage our kids, so why not have a little creative fun while we are at it!

How To Create:

First, you will use your black sharpie marker to create the writing on the front of your thank you card.  We just kept it simple and wrote the words thank you, but you could definitely draw a picture, use bubble letters, or use whatever message fits the purpose of your card!  Just make sure your use sharpie marker so it doesn’t blur in the next steps.

Now you will want to write any personal message you may want to include on the opposite side of the page.  I had my kids think about one specific thing their teacher had taught them and include that in their message.  This example is from my 5 year old who just finished preschool.  I wrote the words for him, but he helped me decide what to write!

Now it’s time for the shaving cream!  Grab a cookie sheet for each child making a card and fill it with shaving cream.  Then let your child decide what food coloring they would like to use and have them squirt in 4-5 drops.  Then they get to mix it up!  We used toothpicks to swirl the colors.  My 7 year old chose to only swirl certain colors together, while others swirled all their colors together.  Be careful during this step to not “over-stir” or you may just end up with a brown mess!

Once everything is stirred you will place your thank you card with the sharpie marker words face down onto the shaving cream tray.  Press it down for a few seconds and then peel it off.  You will have the same colors on your card!

Place your paper on a paper towel and begin wiping the shaving cream off with another paper towel.  I always think the colors are going to wipe off or blur together when we do this, but it is amazing how the color has already transferred to the paper!  After all the shaving cream is wiped off you just need to let it dry, fold it in half and you are ready!
