Alphabet Black Sheep Activity

Yes, I have an alphabet black sheep activity for you this week!  But before you start to get concerned, we aren’t talking about Uncle Ned, the black sheep of your family.  But instead we will be singing and playing with one of the most well known nursery rhymes, Baa Baa Black Sheep!

What You Need for Alphabet Black Sheep:

-Alphabet Black Sheep Printable (free at the end of this post)

–black pom poms or black Dot Marker

–Scissors

–Canvas Grocery Bag

How to Play:

Print off and cut apart the black sheep cards and the recording sheet.  Parents often forget how fun nursery rhymes are for young children, so I suggest singing the song, Baa Baa Black Sheep first.  If you aren’t comfortable with your own singing voice, you can always find a recording on YouTube and both sing along!!

After you are dong singing, you will put the sheep cards in your canvas bag and make sure you have a handful of black pom poms ready for use!  Have your child reach in and pull out one sheep card.  Identify the letter (and the sound if possible)!  Then find the matching letter on the recording sheet and glue one black pom pom to the letter.

Ways to Modify this Activity:

As with most activities, there are many ways you could modify this to match your child’s abilities!

1. I have included both uppercase and lowercase recording sheets! You could stick with matching uppercase to uppercase or make it more of a challenge and match uppercase to lowercase.

2. If you have a wiggly learner make sure you add more movement into this activity.

Consider using three different bags to represent the three different people in the song. Put each bag around the room or house and have them walk to a new bag every time they draw a new card. Even this simple movement will keep their brains more alert!
