Christmas Tree Fine Motor Activity with Beads

What You Need:

Gingerbread Writing Prompt Printable (Free at the end of this post)

Markers

Christmas Stickers, Candy, or Pom poms (optional)

How to Play:

First, you will want to print whichever version of this activity you want to use!  The first option would be for the most beginning writers.  For this version, your child will need to trace the words and simply fill in the box with the number of candies they will use on their house.  You can read the sentence together before they trace it!  Once they are done tracing they can decorate the house above with the matching number of “candies”.  You can just have them draw with markers or you could use Christmas themed stickers.  Other ideas for decorating could be to glue on miniture candies like M&Ms or to use pom poms in place of real candies.

Different Ways to Play

A second option for this writing prompt asks your child to trace the beginning sentence stems and lets them complete the number and the candy or other object they are using to decorate their house.  They is a nice options for students who have mastered writing their letters, but maybe aren’t confident enough or have enough stamina to write an entire sentence.  Again, when they finish writing their sentence they can decorate their house.  Since they get to pick what they are using to decorate the house, the sky is the limit.  You could use beads, jewels, feathers, or any other miniture item.

The last option for this freebie is a completely independent writing activity.  You can brainstorm with your child about how they could decorate a gingerbread house. Then let them write their own sentence about how they would decorate the house.  Of course they get to decorate it when they are done!
