Mermaid Alphabet Activity

Isn’t this mermaid alphabet activity such a fun summer idea?  One of my daughters loves all things mermaids so of course mermaids find their way into our summer learning!!  This free activity is another simple yet effective choice for your preschool summer fun!

What You Need:

– Mermaid Alphabet Match Printable (Free at the end of this post)

–Laminator

– Laminating Packets

– Velcro Dots

– Scissors

How to Play the Mermaid Alphabet Activity:

-First, you want to print your Mermaid Alphabet Printable.  I would recommend you laminate this activity as well.  Laminate the entire sheet and then cut out each mermaid card and starfish card.  I love THIS laminator if you are looking for one.  I have used it for years and it is awesome!

-Next, you will want to add velcro dots!  Put one dots in the empty rectangle on the mermaid card and the matching dot on the back side of the starfish.  Then you are ready to play!

– Depending on where your child is, you may want to just pick 5 to 10 mermaid cards and start with those.  These cards have two different sets of starfish pieces.  One for uppercase and one for lowercase.  So you can choose to match upper to uppercase or lowercase to uppercase.  I always sit with my child the first time through and have them tell me the letter they are matching.  This helps really enforce the letter recognition.  After they know what to do, this is a great independent activity!

– If you think your child is ready, give them all the cards and let them go!  You could spread them all over a table or floor, or sometimes it helps to have the starfish cards spread out and the mermaid cards in a pile so they only see one at a time.
