Salt Art with a Twist

I have told you all about my artistic abilities before, but this salt art with a twist is something anyone can do!  I promise!  If you haven’t done salt art before it is a kid favorite and it really is pretty simple to do!  So let’s jump into the fun together!

How To Create Salt Art with a Twist:

First, have your child pick a picture from your coloring book.  I recommend not using anything with too much detail.  Make sure you take the page out of the coloring book too.  I would also recommend using paper towel or we used some old paper bags underneath your picture to help keep salt from getting everywhere!

Now that you are set up, your child will take the glue and match the lines on their picture.  You can keep it to the outline for younger child or add more detail for older children.  Once you are done with the glue you will put salt on top of the glue.  Make sure you really cover the glue completely.  You will definitely have excess salt on your paper.

Let it sit for a few minutes and then take the paper and gently dump off any excess salt into the trash can.  Now it’s time to add color!  If you want to make your own water colors, grab a cup of water and add food coloring.  If you go this route, I want to warn you that you will want a decent amount of food coloring to get nice vibrant colors!  Otherwise you can use good old watercolors!

Your child will take a paintbrush and dip it into their watercolor.  They will want a good amount of color and water on their paintbrush.  Then just put the paintbrush onto the salt and watch it quickly get soaked up!  It really is very cool!!

And don’t forget if you don’t have any coloring books handy, you can also create your own salt art picture by just drawing on a piece of paper first!  Happy painting friends!
