Preschool Gift Ideas

I know these preschool gift ideas are a little late for this holiday season.  Unless you are looking for a last minute gift, which will get no judgement from me!!  But even if you are done with your shopping this holiday, I hope you can bookmark this post and come back to it on birthdays and future Christmas seasons! I have four kids, so we have seen our share of toys go through our house and I have intentionally only put items on this list that we have used and loved!!

Preschool Gift Ideas – Outdoor Toys

Outside is one of the best places to be for a preschooler!!  It truly is so good for not only their body, but their brain!  These are some of the toys we have used over and over to have fun outside!

Stomp Rocket

This is such a simple idea, but my kids have played with it over and over again!  As a bonus you can get replacement rockets if yours get broken or stuck in a tree!!

Walkie Talkies

You can play with these inside too, of course, but there is something magical about taking them outdoors!  My kids have had so much fun making secret plans of attack in our backyard with the use of our walkie talkies!

Basketball Hoop

This is a more recent gift, but it is already becoming a favorite.  This hoop is portable and the height is adjustable so it can grow as your child does.

Backyard Sprinkler Pool

I know pools may not be for every location, but if you are in a warmer climate this has been a hit for us!  Not only can they run through it like a sprinkler, but my kids have put this at the bottom of our slide and created a water slide!

Scooter

All three of my big kids have these scooters!  They are pretty inexpensive, but they have held up great!  They fold up so they are easy to transport places.  They have lots of colors and options also!  You will want to make sure your child is fairly coordinated to use these.  If you are questioning if this is right for your child you can also look for a three wheel scooter too!

 Indoor Toys

There are so many indoor toys that are great for preschoolers.  From books to games to creative toys, these are our go to options that keep us engaged and playing over the years!

Dress Up Clothes

My kids still love to dress up!!  This princess set again is affordable, but gives all the basics for your little princess!  If you have a little boy, we have superhero capes that my sons both love!  THESE are the ones we have!

Play Tent

This is not the exact play tent that we have, but I couldn’t find the exact version we have anymore!  But a play tent is such a fun indoor toy!  Of course it can be a key player in imaginative play, but it also provides a quiet nook for when they want a minute alone.

Writing Tablet

My son just got this for his most recent birthday and it has been a hit with all my kids!  They have had fun drawing pictures, playing hangman and pictionary, and leaving each other messages.  My son actually fell asleep with it by his side for the first week he had it!

Zingo

This is probably my favorite preschool game!  It is bingo, but each round two tiles are revealed and players have to look at their card and be the first to say any object they see on their card.  It is simple, but fast paced so no one gets bored!  If you are looking for more board games close behind Zingo is Pop the Pig and Guess Who!

Electronic Reader Books

These electronic reader books are such a fun option for preschoolers who can’t read yet!  They are easy to use, but they help preschoolers feel independent.  They have set for many different characters!  We have had Spiderman, Minnie Mouse and Frozen!

Fine Motor and Craft Toys

My goal when I get fine motor or crafts for my preschooler is to get things they can do mostly independently.  I know that if they need me to sit by them to complete it, I am going to be more likely to say no!  But if they can do most of it by themselves they can have the freedom to play anytime!

Scratch Art

Scratch art has been really popular lately.  You can find lots of sets that are just black paper that your child can doodle and create their own picture on.  My kids actually prefer scratch art like these Melissa and Dog books that uncover a picture underneath.  Either way, both options can be done independently!

Puzzles

As we get to preschool most kids are ready to move past the single spot matching puzzles.  We loved these puzzle cubes!  Not only do you get a bunch of puzzles in one, but it is great for little brains to visualize where each piece should go!  If you are looking for more traditional puzzles we have several sets like THIS Frozen set that are well loved too!

Aquabeads

These aquabeads are surprisingly easy to use! They are similar to Perlar beads, but instead of having to iron the beads you simply spray water on them and they dry together!  It is genius!!  They have lots of different themed sets that would be attractive to boys or girls.  And what great fine motor practice!!

Scribble Scrubbies

My son got this exact set a few birthdays ago and has had so much fun with it!  They come with markers and your child can draw right on the animals and then simply put them under water and they marker erases.  Again, they have lots of different sets to choose from!

Paint with Water

As preschoolers your child will probably be ready to move beyond the water wow books onto these type of paint with water books.  Holding the smaller paintbrush is great writing preparation!  And of course using water means a minimal opportunity for a mess!!
