Letter N is for Nailpolish Art

This week has been Letter N week for my preschooler!  And since her name starts with N she is loving this week!

We have settled into a nice routine at home with our letter of the week activities.  We usually do a letter game or craft in the morning with little brother, as well as read letter books.  And our favorite part of the morning is our letter songs and rhymes!  Someday I will get around to posting all of those for you too!

But, back to the letter N!  My favorite craft we did this week was Nailpolish art!  I kind of stumbled upon using nailpolish for art when my oldest was little.  After painting her nails, I was distracted and the next thing I know she was painting the papertowel we used!  I realized the polish is perfect for little hands.  Nailpolish has a built in tiny paintbrush which helps develop those fine motor skills.

We used this fun set of nailpolish my girls got for Christmas.  I think kids nailpolish is a great option for this activity.  It dries quickly and if it spills it is much less likely to stain!  Check out this super cute Trolls set if you are looking to score your own!

In addition to nail polish, you will need tin foil.  The tin foil give the piece a fun shiny feel.  We chose to decorate hearts since Valentine’s Day is coming up, and my oldest two are girls who love hearts at any time of the year!  But the possibilities are endless!  I would stay away from anything that would require a lot of detail from the nail polish.  Big strokes are much easier for little hands.  Draw whatever pattern or shape you choose on the tin foil with a Sharpie marker and let your kids go to town with the nail polish.

This kept my 6 and 4 year old busy for quite a while!  I was really fun to see how my oldest two approached it differently.  The 4 year old went for a multi colored approach.

While my oldest went for a two-toned approach.

I have to admit I enjoyed making my own rainbow heart too!  Check out all of our finished products below!
