Letter A Songs and Rhymes Book- Download Here
Now, take a look at the videos I made for each song! I will sing each song for you so you have an example to go off of and then explain the game or activity.
Song #1- A is for Apple – Video Link
I explain the game we play in the video, but I also wanted to write out written directions for you here too! My kiddos LOVE stuffed animals. My middle daughter has a whole crew of stuffed animals she sleeps with every night! So for this game we took a group of her stuffed animals (maybe 5 to 10), and we set them up in a circle. Next, we sing the Apple Tree Song and at the same time we tap each stuffed animal, going around in the circle. When we get to the last line of the song, “If your apple knocks me out,” the animal that is tapped on the word out is out of the game. We take that animal out of the circle and then we do it all over again. We repeat it until there is only one animal left, and that stuffed animal is our big winner!!
Song #2- A is for Airplane- Video Link
You are probably familiar with the tune for this song already! To play the game for this one, all you need to do is print off the red airplane that is included in the packet. I recommend either printing it on card stock or laminating it before you play. To start playing, one person will close their eyes and the other will hide the red airplane somewhere in the room. While you are hiding, both players can be singing the song! After the airplane is hidden, the partner can open their eyes and search for the airplane! I bet you kids will love this hide and seek game as much as mine do!
Song #3- A is for Aiken Drum- Video Link
I am going to be honest, I did not think this song would be a big hit with my daughter, but boy was I wrong! She can’t get enough of the silly lyrics. If you aren’t familiar with this song make sure you take a listen to my video! You can start with the lyrics I have included in your booklet and then have fun making up new verses! If your child needs help getting the creative juices flowing, try giving them a body part or a piece of clothing and asking them what it should be made out of!
Song #4- A is for Alligator- Video Link
This finger play is just so fun! Take a peek at my video for a live version, but the actions are described below.
Five little monkeys swinging in a tree. (All 5 fingers up in one hand, swing your hand back and forth.)
Teasing Mr. Alligator, “You can’t catch me!” (Wave/bend fingers pretending to tease the alligator, shake your finger no)
Along came Mr. Alligator, as quiet as can be, (Opposite hand pretends to crawl on the ground towards the monkeys)
And SNAPS a monkey right out of that tree!! (Opposite hand jumps up and “eats” a monkey, you know have only 4 fingers up.)
You can continue each verse with one less alligator. We also have some puzzle pieces that are monkeys and alligators and my two youngest loved acting this one out with the puzzle pieces too!
Song #5- A is for Aunt- Video Link
This is such a fun silly echo song! That means you will sing each phrase first and your kiddo will echo you! The goal is once you do an action, you continue it for the whole song. Depending on the age of your kiddo, that may be difficult, but it is still fun to try! The video above will give you a visual idea of how these actions look, but I will give you a quick recap now too!
Waving Fan– Take your right hand and pretend to wave your hand like a fan.
Pair of Shears– Take your left hand and pretend to cut with your pointer and middle finger.
Wooden Shoe– Tap one foot on the ground.
Hula- Hoop– Swing your hips around like you are hula hooping!
Rocking Chair– rock back and forth with your body
Nut Like You– Point at you! (You do look pretty crazy doing all those actions!)
Song #6- A is for Anchor- Video Link
I love this one because it is so simple, and it gives you the chance to practice the letter sound! It is to the tune of Mary Had a Little Lamb. I started you off with two letter A words (Anchor and Astronaut). Next see if you and your kiddo can come up with new letter A words to fill into the song!
