How to Make Space for Mom’s Quiet Time
You may have read the title, How to Make Space for Mom’s Quiet Time, and laughed. I get it. You have no idea how often my house is anything but quiet! I want to be honest with you all that finding a way to read God’s word and pray was really difficult for me when I first became a mom. How do you find space for this when there are always children who need you? It felt impossible. And I felt guilty about it. So first, let’s just agree that this post is not intended to be a guilt trip. But rather, I am sharing with you, what I wish someone had shared with me back then when I was drowning in noise and needs.

Adjust Your Expectations for Mom’s Quiet Time
My first piece of advice for you to make space for your own quiet time is to adjust your expectations. Before I became a mom, I was able to sit quietly with my Bible and journal and spend a big chunk of uninterrupted time praying and doing various Bible studies. Then came kids. Suddenly, I had no more alone time. What I wish someone had told me is that is it okay that not every season of your life is the right time for an in depth or time consuming Bible Study. It is okay to keep it simple during this time. Write a verse on an index card and meditate and memorize it all week. Listen to the bible while you are nursing a baby. Or I love THESE Write the Word Journals. There are my go to for seasons of craziness!
Find A Way to Make It Happen
I know I just told you to adjust your expectations, but the other piece that I wish someone had told me about having a quiet time is to just make it happen! I don’t say that from a legalistic place. God isn’t going to love you more if you have spend time with him today. But it WILL make a difference in your life and heart. I spent too much time being inconsistent in my early days of motherhood because I placed other things as more important. Put Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on if you need to so you can have your time. As my kids have gotten older, sometimes I send them outside in the morning to play while I have some quiet time. Or in other seasons I have done my quiet time during their screen time. Most recently, I have let my three year old play by himself while I do my study. This often ends in him sitting in my lap and me reading the Bible to him while he eats a snack.
Trust that God sees the desires of your heart to be with Him and He will be faithful to work in your heart. I have never walked away from spending time with Jesus and thought, “I wish I hadn’t wasted my time with that!” You will not regret any minute you spend with Jesus.
Find A Friend
One of the greatest helps in having a consistent mom’s quiet time is finding friends you can either study with or be accountable with. If you aren’t able to do a formal study with a group of women, find a friend and text each other a verse from your quiet time each morning to help yourselves stay accountable. Or if you have the ability, join a women’s study. I have made life-long friendships in these groups and I wouldn’t be the mom I am today without these groups. If you don’t have a group, start one! I know that can be an easy thing to say, but I believe with my whole heart that God will bless you if you gather a group of women to study His Word. If you don’t know where to start below are some of my favorite studies or resources!
