Christmas Letter Recognition Games- 3 in 1

It’s time to bring out the Christmas letter recognition games!!  The turkey is done and it’s December and our house is ready to dive in to all things Christmas.  This week I am sharing with you a 3 in 1 game.  One set of cards that you can play with 3 different ways!  I don’t know about you, but I love anything that I can prep once and play with multiple times!

– Christmas 3 in 1 printable (Free at the end of this post)

Markers

How to Play:

First, print off your Christmas 3 in 1 printable.  In addition to being able to play 3 games, there are uppercase and lowercase versions too.  Print off whatever version is right for your child!  Then cut apart all the game pieces.  You can always laminate if you want durability.  If you plan to play these games more than once, I recommend laminating the Christmas tree and present pieces.  A laminator is a great thing to add to your Christmas list if you don’t already have one!  They really aren’t too expensive!  I have THIS one and have loved it for years!!

Game #1- Matching

The first way you can use these cards is to play a simple matching game.  You could use a sensory bin and put the Christmas tree and present cards in the sensory bin.  You could put the Christmas trees all out and have them draw a present card and find the match.  They could match uppercase to uppercase or use the lowercase present cards and match uppercase to lowercase.  And remember unless your child is really secure in most of their letter recognition, I would break this down and only use 5 to 10 letters to start with.

Game #2- Where’s the present?

For this game, you will want to lay the Christmas tree cards out, face up.  Then take the blank present card and hide it behind one of the Christmas trees.  Let your child take turns guessing which letter the present is hiding behind!  Again, you can only use 5 to 10 cards if you child is still just beginning to learn their letters (That is where my little guy is at!!)  You can also let them hide the present and you guess where it is!  When you say a letter have them turn over the card for you so they are still practicing their letter recognition!

Game #3- Find and Record

This game will use the recording sheet included in the pack.  You can hide the Christmas tree cards around the room, put them in a sensory bin, or just have them draw a card.  Once they find a card, they will look at their recording sheet and color in the matching square.  I have both uppercase and lowercase recording sheets too!  And don’t forget how giving your child simple choices can keep them engaged in an activity.  When I let my son pick what color marker he wants to use he stays much more engaged.  Even if he changes color every letter, he is learning!

So pick your favorite way or try them all out!  I have one more Christmas freebie scheduled for your inbox too, so be on the lookout!  Wishing you and yours a very merry Christmas!
