O is for Ocean

Letter of the Week Series- Letter O

(This post may contain affiliate links.)

Both my kiddos and I LOVED this Letter O, whole alphabet activity!  This activity came to be based on the idea that O is for Ocean.  I used some ideas from my background as a music teacher and we incorporated some classical music and dance in this activity!  We will be using a piece of music from The Carnival of the Animals.  If you don’t know anything about this piece, the composer wrote a number of songs, each one inspired by a different animal group!  It is really fun to listen and hear each animals characteristics come through the music.  I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to use the Aquarium piece for our Ocean game today!

Step 1- Print off and cut out these FREE Ocean-Themed Alphabet Cards and put them in a box.  We just used a shoe box and called it our Ocean Box!  (Download details at end).

Step 2- Pull Up this recording of Carnival of the Animals- Aquarium

Step 3- Play the song and allow kids to dance however they want.  After a bit, pause the music.  This is the signal for your kids to come to the ocean box and pick on Ocean-Themed Alphabet card.  Then they can tell you the letter on their card.  If they don’t know, go ahead and tell them.  This isn’t a test!  It’s about giving them more exposure to the letters and having fun with them!

Step 4- Repeat Step 3 until all of your Alphabet Cards are gone.  You may have to play the song more than once and that’s okay!

My 2 year old loved dancing with us too. He came and got an Alphabet Card each time too!  He definitely doesn’t know any of the letters yet, but big sister would tell him his letter too!  And it never hurts for him to have more exposure to letters too!

My kids liked this so much they asked to play it again the next day!  We hope you love it as much as we did!

I am offering these Ocean-Themed Alphabet Cards to my subscribers for free!  Sign up to get your freedbie and to be in the know on all the latest happenings and freebies at Super God Not Super Mom!
