Winter Alphabet Sensory BinÂ
Are you ready for this winter alphabet sensory bin freebie? Haven’t tried sensory bins yet! This is a great starter activity! I don’t know what winter is like where you live, but here in the Midwest, it’s COLD!!! That means no playing outside for my preschool boy. So in the winter I am constantly looking for things to keep him busy inside. Sensory bins have been a lifesaver! Today’s freebie is great because you can make a great elaborate sensory bin or you can keep it simple and still learn and have fun!

What You Need:
– Winter Alphabet Sensory Bin Printable (Free at the end of this post)
– Sensory Bin Container like THIS
-Sensory Bin Filler- examples- cotton balls, pom poms, rice, instasnow
– Alphabet Magnets (optional)
– Velcro Dots (optional)
How to Play:
First, print off your Winter Alphabet Sensory Bin Printable. I would recommend either printing on card stock or laminating this activity. Laminators like THIS are really not very expensive! Then you can cut out your snowball cards. You can use velcro dots on the back of your snowball cards and the blanks on the penguin cards. Another idea is to cut the penguin cards apart if you want to start with less letters or if you have a group of students using this.
Next, get your sensory bin ready. The thing that makes most people nervous about sensory bins is the potential mess!! So if that is you, I suggest you start with materials that are not very messy! For this one you could fill your bin with cottonballs and pom poms! Easy and a pretty limited mess. If you are up for more, you could fill it with rice or insta snow. Once you have filled your sensory bin you can add your snowball letter cards. Or if you want to keep it even simpler you can substitute alphabet magnets for the snowball letter cards.
Put the penguin cards out on the table and let your child start to search for letters in the sensory bin. When they find a letter, have them tell you the letter they found and let them look at the penguin cards and find the match! Simplify this by only working with 10 letters at a time. This activity comes in both uppercase and lowercase and I also included a blank page for the penguin sheet so you can write in specific letters you are working on! If you use this, make sure you take pictures and tag me in them! It makes me day to see you guys learning and having fun!!
