It is finally starting to feel like spring around here!  We have been able to finally get outside and play during the afternoon.  Spring is amazing!  Our alphabet activity this week is perfect for outdoor play too!  It can definitely work inside too, but looking at those ice cubes makes me excited for the warm summer days to come!!

What You Need:

-Alphabet Ice Breaker Printable (Free at the end of this post)

-Some type of play hammer or rocks to break the ice cubes

– Alphabet Magnets

– Ice Cube Trays

– Laminator and Laminating Packets (Optional, but recommended.)

How to Play:

-First, you will need to take your ice cube trays and put one letter magnet in each section.  Then fill the trays with water, and put them in the freezer.

-Next, print off the Alphabet Ice Breaker Printable.  I recommend you laminate these too.  Since we will be working with ice, these papers will most likely get wet and not hold up very well.

– When the ice cubes are frozen, dump them out of their trays.  We took them outside, but if you need to stay inside, I would put them in a large and long bin.

– Give your child a hammer or rock and let them start chipping away at the ice cubes.  Eventually they will free an alphabet magnet.

– Each time they free a magnet have them bring it to the Alphabet Ice Cube printable and set it by the lowercase match!

I love the weekly alphabet activities. Can’t wait to do letter I for ice breaker. This gave me a great idea for letter J- I have cookie cutter letters that could be set in a jello mold. When the letters are all matched up there’s a yummy treat too!
